Just checking in...

Hello Everyone!

I'm thinking about using nature as my theme - I'm an avid hiker and think this would be a great opportunity to document some of the great things I see.

I have a fotothing account (http://www.fotothing.com/jplyman/) from previous classes with Jerry, so there are some other things up there, but I look forward to posting some new stuff!

Hi Everyone,

I tried my hand a taking some shots of reflections and urban settings. It seemed tougher than I thought to find things to shot. I felt like I was taking the same picture over and over again. I posted a few of them here and I have added more pictures to my Fotothing account. I hope everybody had a good time with taking pictures this first week.

For my project, I am thinking about doing pictures of architecture. I think that you can find interesting details in almost any building.

Hello everyone, I would like to take a few minutes to introduce myself. I am a forty-four year old single mother of one daughter and a grandmother to two wonderful grandchildren named Mirabel and MJ. I was born and raised in New Haven but have lived in East Haven for the last six years when I purchased my home. I am the seventh child out of nine siblings. My parents are Irish / Italian and yes, we were Catholic. Growing up was quit a challenge with nine kids but I would not change it for the world. My family is very close and we support each other in whatever comes our way. It is how we were raised. My career has been in the business field for 23 years and I was fortunate to have been given a chance in a position for which I had no experience. Since I do not like to fail without giving my full effort, I was able to succeed in my field – and I had great mentors. I work in a manufacturing, overhaul, repair, and sales industry. I was the Production Control Manager for twenty-one years. Two years ago our Vice President asked me to start up a new group called Delivery Assurance as they needed someone with my experience to run it. My new title is Delivery Assurance Manager and my main goal is to meet customers need whether their request is at lead-time or less than lead-time. My team faces unpredictable challenges daily and not only do we resolve those issues, we create solutions so we don’t face the same issues again.I started attending classes at Albertus Magnus many years ago. This is the year I finally complete my bachelor’s degree. My advisor tells me I only need 6 more credits and will be able to graduate in May. Work keeps me very busy and I do not have much free time available. On-line sounded like a great way for me to complete my last two classes and this one sounded interesting. I think I will be able to take away some knowledge from this class and apply it to my work life. I will finally have a degree to put with my work experience. If I decide to pursue my Masters, it will be a slow process as I work long hours and do not have a lot of time left for hobbies or anything else of that nature. What little time I do have is spent with my grandchildren. Thanks for taking the time to read my bio and I look forward to hearing from all of you soon.

Hi Class, I'm back for the second time in Digital Photography! I plan to graduate this May and this is one of my last two classes. I have enjoyed my time at Albertus and am highly anticipating what to do next. Anyhow, I look forward to composing a photography theme this time around. Maybe that will keep me focused on my work and produce results that will demonstrate that I'm grasping the concepts forth-coming. I'm pretty sure of my theme now and will begin photographing for it this week.

Introduction

Hi everyone, my name is Joe and this is the third Art class that I've taken at Albertus. I'm really interested in seeing what everyone comes up with for projects, as I have been very impressed by the quality of work that students had posted in the other classes!

This is my last Mod at Albertus as I am graduating in May. I started 7 years ago as an Engineering major in Florida and I had finally decided to pursue my true passions as a Bachelor of Arts rather than the Sciences. I work in an Engineering field currently, and I tell my peers how strange it is that the arts and sciences are never really exclusive of each other- even though it seems all of this stuff is "mushy" and non-technical.

I would like to pursue two things of interest in my portfolio for this Mod:
1) My mother is an active potter and would like to put together a website. I told her I would make the website and also take photos of her pottery. This is one of the "technical" hurdles I would like to overcome- especially focus and lighting.
2) I would like to do a series of portraits following people in their day-to-day dealings. There's a series on television called "A Day in the Life" that follows celebrities, similarly. However, I would like to prove that my friends lead incredible daily lives without all of the glamour of showbiz. Some would be interesting, some technical, some comical.

Self Portrait

Hi All,

My name is Pete Gibbons like Pamela this is my 2nd class with Jerry. I really enjoyed the first class and it was a nice a change from the regular routine of school. I am a junior at Albertus in the IS department and I like all of the technology involved with digital Photography. I was introduced to the Picasa 3 software during the first class and I use it all the time now with my personal pictures.

I just got a new camera a few weeks back and I am still learning all the different features it has. I went from an old canon 4 megapixel camera to nice new Canon 12 megapixel camera. The size between the 2 makes a big difference.

For my project I am considering a few different topics. I found the Reflections and the Urban portfolios to be the most interesting. Please see the attached links.

My Introductory Hello to Everybody

My name is Cheryl Vereen. I am a senior at Albertus and will graduate on May 16th with a Bachelor's Degree. I have worked as an assistant teacher for the City of New Haven for about 17 years. I have 4 grown, wonderful children and 6 grandchildren of my own and will be getting married in July. I will then be blessed with 3 additional children and three additional grandchildren for a grand total of 7 children and 9 grandchildren. Just call us the "Brady Bunch." The first picture is one that someone else took and I cropped it. The second picture is one I took of myself. I will post more self-portraits soon on fotothing. I think I'll try taking a picture of myself in the mirror. I've never done that before. I wanted to set up my blog today and get the first assignment done. I am very excited about this course. This is my third online class and the third class I have taken with Professor Nevins. They have all been enlightning and wonderful experiences. I know I will learn so much more. Who knows... I might even learn how to pose and look natural, because I'm really not good at that. I look forward to meeting all of you and seeing your projects. I have chosen the theme of "Nature" as my project, because I have a strong passion for things found in nature. I find them so calming yet simple. To view my photos in fotothing, my screen name is cvereen77, so add me to your friends so we can view each other's pictures. Best of luck to all. Introductions

Hi Jerry, Hi everyone,

My name is Pamela Longley and this is my 2nd digital photography class with Jerry. I am so happy to be taking one of Jerry's classes again. I always learn so much.
I have thought about my theme and I decided on one of America’s favorite pastimes… Baseball.
Here is a link to some ideas that will help inspire me throughout the Mod. http://www.jpgmag.com/search/photos/baseball .
As you can see from the portrait above. I do not like taking my picture. I much prefer taking other peoples.

What is due this week?

Hi everyone... this is the week that we get our systems up and running, our cameras working, and your software installed. You have become a member of this blog and you've set up your Fotothing account. On top of that I'd like you to try your hand at some inventive/creative self-portraits to post to Fotothing and to put one or two here on the blog. Post some ideas for your project with a link to the page where you found a good example of what you are thinking of... Good sites to check out are Flickr.com and fotothing.com

Albertus has a directive that they would like me to take attendance two times per week. I'll be recording that in the campus cruiser attendance log. So be sure to post twice before Monday morning. One post would be your introductory hello and the other could be your self-portrait
By next week, we'll be committing to your term project. You can begin and warm up by picking up where you last left off in photography.

Each Monday morning then, I will go through the blog and record attendance in Campus Cruiser according to the posts I see.

Welcome to Mod 4 Digital Photo II

Hi Everyone and welcome to the blog for the Mod 4, 2010 online digital photography class!

This class may be unlike any other class you have ever taken. You success is entirely driven by your shooting and creative activity. Weekly assignments are designed you get you to see and think more "photographically". There are no tests or papers due in this class.... rather, you will be creating an online portfolio of your work as you move from week to week. Quality AND quantity count. Keeping up with your work on a week to week basis also counts. Everything you need to complete this class successfully can be found in the class syllabus linked from the list of links on the right.  This class is designed with the beginner in mind and it IS supposed to fun and enriching... I am here to help you succeed.

Any season of the year is good to be taking this class... Spring is a particularly good time. ..Allow yourself time to shoot each week during daylight hours... it's your assignment to do so each week. Light is out until 6:30 pm now and getting longer with each passing day...The very best light to shoot under is the hour up until sunset... say 5 - 6 pm or the hour after dawn. The light is beautiful then. I will be encouraging you to use light expressively throughout this class and no flash pictures are allowed!  With your work, try to make a point of shooting while you have light... You might want to change your routine and allow yourself 15 or 20 minutes in the morning before heading off to work to do your shooting.

....You can post to the blog and your portfolio from any computer on the Internet from any where in the world. I'm looking forward to getting started with you...

-Jerry
